Old photo republished as Palestinians faking injuries in Gaza
An image of a person whose face is covered with medical equipment has spread on social media with the claim that he is a Palestinian from Gaza faking his injury. The claim was published as part of the “Pallywood” campaign, which casts doubt on the existence and number of Palestinians killed and wounded in the Gaza Strip, and accuses them of acting to gain international sympathy.
Kashif verified the authenticity of the image and found it to be old and the claim to be misleading. Kashif found that there are many accounts that have published the image in the past years in the context of sarcasm and surprise.
The image also contains the “Astro Warna” logo at the top right of the image, which is a Malaysian television channel that shows Malaysian comedy programs and events and international content.
