Accounts on “X” published a video clip of a fight between a group of people, claiming that it was between members of the new Syrian government. The video was accompanied by the following text: “This is the first meeting of the new Syrian government.”
Kashif verified the video via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and the claim is misleading. The video dates back to a fight during the annual conference of the General Authority of Aleppo Lawyers inside the Gaziantep University branch in Afrin last August.
Radio Taif channel published the video on YouTube on 10/8/2024, with the following title “A fistfight broke out between free lawyers at the Gaziantep University branch in the city of Afrin in the Aleppo countryside.”
The Levant News website also published the same video on 10/8/2024 in a report with the following title: “A fight inside the Gaziantep University branch in Syria”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also published a clip from the circulated video on 10/8/2024, and explained that a fistfight broke out between a delegation headed by the Minister of Justice in the “Syrian Interim Government” at the time, Haboush Lata, and a group of lawyers affiliated with the “Free Lawyers” Council in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo. The lawyers chanted slogans against the Minister of Justice, expressing their rejection of his presence, accusing the minister of causing divisions within the Bar Association.
The Syria TV reported that “a quarrel broke out between lawyers during a meeting of the Aleppo branch of the Bar Association in the city of Afrin, due to the role of the Syrian Interim Government, while a group of lawyers issued a statement expressing their rejection of the conference and its outcomes.” A source in the Bar Association told Syria TV that the meeting was the annual conference of the General Authority of Aleppo Lawyers.
