X account “Zaher Abdullah” posted a video of Syrian journalists Mohammad Al-Faisal and Jamil Al-Hassan, in which they call for targeting the Israeli occupation with rockets. The post claimed the video was recent and directed at the new Syrian leadership. The clip was accompanied by the caption: “Isn’t this the journalist who was with Al-Julani?! Did they turn on him or what?!”
Kashif verified the video via reverse image search on Google Images, and found that the clip was excerpted from an older video that had circulated during the rule of the ousted Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad.
Journalist Mohammad Al-Faisal had published the full version of the video on his Instagram account on 12/10/2023, in which both he and journalist Jamil Al-Hassan challenged the Syrian regime at the time to launch a missile at the Israeli occupation in response to the Israeli airstrikes on airports in Damascus and Aleppo, and in support of the people of Gaza.
Amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes on various regions in Syria following the fall of the ousted Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad, and the continued aggression against the Gaza Strip, several accounts have re-shared the video, questioning the credibility of the journalists’ statements about supporting Gaza.
On Wednesday, 27/11/2024, opposition factions announced the launch of a military operation named “Deterring the Aggression.” Then, on Sunday, 8/12/2024, they announced via a statement broadcast on state television that Damascus had been liberated and the 24-year rule of Bashar Al-Assad had been brought to an end.
Furthermore, on Thursday, 3/4/2025, the Israeli occupation forces launched airstrikes targeting Harsh Al-Jubailiya and Tal Al-Jomou’ in the countryside of Daraa province. The strikes also targeted Hama Military Airport, Tiyas (T4) Airbase in Homs, and the Scientific Research Center in the Barzeh district of Damascus.
