Accounts on “X” published a photo showing young men with their hands tied and blindfolded with an Israeli soldier, claiming that the photo shows the surrender of Hezbollah members in Lebanon, “Today, a group of Hezbollah members surrendered in the town of Khiam, south of Lebanon, after running out of ammunition and food and being besieged for a week in a building. Because the Israeli Defense Forces are the army of morals, they provided them with water and lunch before transporting them to the Israeli interior.”
Kashif verified the image via reverse search on Google and found that it is old and the claim is misleading. The image was published by Israeli-Hebrew website Ynet on 2/5/2024 as part of a collection of archival photos by Yedioth Ahronoth photographer Ziv Koren documenting the war since 7/10/2023.
Ynet stated that the photo was taken on 22/11/2023 in the Gaza Strip and that it shows a soldier from the 504th Field Investigation Unit giving water to young men from Gaza who were arrested for investigation on suspicion of belonging to factions in Gaza.
The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club published a report on 31/10/2024 on the detainees from the Gaza Strip in Ofer camp, and stated that “there is no clear estimate of the number of detainees from Gaza in the occupation’s prisons and camps, who are estimated in the thousands, including dozens of women, children, and the elderly, in addition to the arrest campaigns that targeted medical staff, while relevant institutions announced the death of 24 detainees from Gaza.”
The report stated that “detainees suffer from tragic conditions and circumstances and shocking accounts of the abuse and torture to which they are subjected.”
The Israeli occupation army published a video clip on 29/10/2024, claiming that it documents the arrest of the commander of the Aita al-Shaab region in Hezbollah and other members of the Radwan Force in southern Lebanon.
