Social media accounts claimed that pro-Palestine protesters in San Francisco in the United States removed the American flag and replaced it with the Palestinian. The claim was shared in the form of two photos compared next to each other where one showed a flagpole with the American flag, and the other showed the same flagpole but with the Palestinian flag.
Kashif was able to verify the claim and found it to be misleading. The photo with the Palestinian flag is extracted, the protesters didn’t replace the American flag with the Palestinian one, rather, they placed it under it, as seen in reports by TV channels and news websites.
KTVU FOX 2 shared a video showing the flagpole with the two flags, with the following caption: “Palestinian flag flown on Golden Gate Bridge. A group of protesters hoisted the Palestinian flag so it flew beneath an American flag on the Golden Gate Bridge. The action happened hours after the San Francisco Board of Supervisors introduced a resolution to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Pro-Palestine protest took place on December 6 2023 on San Francisco’s Golden Gate bridge demanding a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
