A design mimicking Al Jazeera’s breaking news format circulated on social media, containing the following text: “Iranian Intelligence Minister: Reports from the Revolutionary Guards indicate that Haniyeh committed suicide and was not assassinated.”

The source of the claim

Kashif verified the design and found it to be fake, and the news it contained to be fabricated. Kashif’s team searched Al Jazeera’s official website and its official social media pages but found no mention of such a statement.

Upon examining the design attributed to Al Jazeera, Kashif noted that the font used was entirely different from the font typically used by Al Jazeera’s pages. Kashif’s team also reviewed the latest statements by Iranian Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib, and found that he stated in an interview that reports suggest no internal elements were involved in the assassination of the head of Hamas’ political bureau, ruling out a security breach.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that preliminary investigations showed that Haniyeh’s assassination was carried out with a short-range projectile fired from outside his residence.
