Kashif verified the photo through a reverse Google search and found that it is old and incorrectly linked to the passage of the Israeli warship through the Suez Canal. The photo was published by the Associated Press on 20/2/1998, accompanied by the following description: “Egyptian spectators shout “Allahu Akbar” and point their thumbs down in protest against a possible U.S.-led attack on Iraq, as the British frigate HMS Somerset passes through the Suez Canal on Friday, February 20, 1998″. photo was taken by Norbert Schiller for the Associated Press.
The Suez Canal published an official statement on 1/11/2024, in which it affirmed its “commitment to implementing international agreements that guarantee freedom of maritime navigation for ships transiting the canal, whether commercial or military ships, without discrimination based on the ship’s nationality, in line with the provisions of the Constantinople Convention, which constitutes a basic guarantee for preserving the canal’s position as the most important sea lane in the world.”
In an official statement issued by the Egyptian Armed Forces on 1/11/2024, it denied “its assistance to Israel in its military operations in general and in detail” and confirmed that “there is no form of cooperation with Israel.”
A video spread on social media on 2/11/2024 documented the passage of a warship carrying the Israeli flag and the Egyptian flag through the Suez Canal.
