Social media accounts recently published a photo showing a huge fire, claiming that it was in the port of Latakia as a result of being targeted by the Israeli occupation army, “The Syrian port of Latakia after the Israeli bombing now.”

    One source of the claim

Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and was incorrectly linked to the Israeli occupation army’s targeting of Latakia port. The image dates back to a fire that broke out in the municipality’s detention garage in the Abdullah Port area in Kuwait in April 2022.

On 18/4/2022, the Kuwait Times website published a report that included the circulated photo. The report stated that a fire broke out on Monday, 18/4/2022, in a number of abandoned fiberglass boats in the car impoundment garage at Abdullah Port, and indicated that the fire was intentional.

On 18/4/2022, the Al-Sahafa Net website published the photo with the following description: “Fire in the municipality garage boats in Mina Abdullah.”

A report published by Al-Jarida website on 18/4/2022 stated that the Public Relations and Media Department of the General Fire Force confirmed that the fire in the Abdullah Port Municipality impoundment garage was the result of a deliberate act using flammable materials, as the fire broke out in neglected boats, and the firefighting teams from the Abdullah Port, Umm Al-Hayman and Al-Ahmadi centers were able to control it after three hours, without any human injuries, but with significant material losses.

On Monday 9/12/2024, the Israeli Air Force carried out raids on the port of Latakia in northwestern Syria, targeting ships and warships of the Syrian army that were anchored in the port.

The Israeli occupation army carried out about 310 air strikes on Syrian territory since the announcement of the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, on the morning of 8/12/2024, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
