Social media accounts posted a photo of the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, with an injured person on a bed, claiming that it was his son, “The son of the Israeli Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, was permanently disabled after being shot in the spine by a Qassam sniper in northern Gaza.”

    One source of the claim

Kashif verified the photo via “Google Images” tool and found that the photo is old and the claim is fabricated. The photo is of Israeli soldier “Yona Barev” and not of the son of the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevi.

On 5/14/2024, the Israeli occupation army’s account on the “X” platform published a group of photos, including the circulated photo, and explained that it was of its Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, during a visit to the army’s wounded being treated at the Sheba Medical Center – Tel Hashomer.

The Israeli Sheba Medical Center also published the photo on its Facebook account on 19/5/2024, stating that it was of the American-Israeli soldier and medic in the Duvdevan Unit of the Israeli occupation army, Yona Brav.

On 18/5/2024, ofeks photography Instagram account published a photo from a different angle of the same event, alongside the circulated photo, and stated that the photos is of “Leona Breiv, fighter and paramedic in Duvdevan.”

Kashif’s Israeli-Hebrew affairs team also searched the media and official Hebrew websites, and did not find any mention of the son of the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevi, being permanently disabled as a result of being shot in the spine by a Qassam sniper in northern Gaza.

According to the latest update of the Israeli occupation army website, the number of killed Israeli soldiers announced since October 7th has reached 771 officers and soldiers.
