Accounts on “X” shared and posted a picture of a huge explosion, claiming that it was at the American “al-Tanf” base on the Syrian-Iraqi border, “Explosions at the al-Tanf base, which hosts American forces in Syria near the Iraqi border.”

Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and incorrectly linked to the American “al-Tanf” base on the Syrian-Iraqi border. The image shows smoke and fire rising after the Israeli occupation aircraft carried out airstrikes on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip in August 2020. 

GettyImages website published the photo on 12/8/2020, and reported that it shows “smoke and fire rise after warplanes belonging to the Israeli army carried out airstrikes over the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah on August 12, 2020.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the international coalition forces shot down a drone heading towards the American “al-Tanf” base, located in the border triangle between Syria, Iraq and Jordan, on 27/10/2024.
