Freed prisoner Muhammad Nazzal did not lie about the damage to his hands and did not greet his relatives warmly. What appears in the video is the freed child prisoner Muhammad Shatara

Social media accounts published a video clip of a freed child prisoner hugging a young man in the hospital, claiming that the child is Muhammad Nazal, who was released from Israeli occupation prisons with broken hands, moving his hands while and showing no injuries.

The claim is in an attempt to discredit Nazzal, who declared after his liberation that he was beaten inside the occupation prisons and that his hands were severely damaged.The claim was shared as part of the “Pallywood” campaign which casts doubt on the existence and number of Palestinians killed and wounded by the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and accuses the Palestinians of acting out in order to gain international sympathy.

Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. The video shows the freed child, Muhammad Shatara, from Al-Issawiya town in occupied Jerusalem, not Muhammad Nazzal. The video was previously published on the Al Jazeera – Palestine Facebook page on 29 November 2023.Ahed Shatara, the father of the freed prisoner, Muhammad Shatara, also confirmed to Kashif that the person who appears in the video is his son, and the person who was greeting him warmly is his uncle.

Kashif also previously verified another claim accusing Nazzal of lying, and obtained an x-ray and a medical report of Nazzal, proving that he had been beaten and suffered from fractures in his hands.

Child prisoner Muhammad Nazzal was released on Tuesday 28 November 2023 at dawn, as part of the fourth installment of the exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, while the child prisoner Muhammad Shatara was released within the fifth installment of the exchange deal.
