“Saqr bin Adullah” account on X, formerly known as Twitter, published a video of a mother bidding farewell to her killed child in the Gaza Strip with the claim that the girl is a plastic doll and that the video is misleading. The claim was shared along the “Pallywood” social media campaign which casts doubt on the existence and number of Palestinians killed and wounded in the Gaza Strip, and accuses Palestinians of faking death on order to gain international sympathy.
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading, while the video is real. The video clip is of the mother of the killed baby girl, Jury Miqdad, as she bids farewell to her child, who was killed as a result of the Israeli occupation’s bombing in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
A group of media outlets and journalists in the Gaza Strip, including Rum Agency, Al-Sharq News, Al-Jazeera, Abdullah Al-Attar, and Uday Abu Taha, covered the farewell of the child, Jury Miqdad, on 1 December 2023.
