A video clip circulating on social media shows a tank chasing a group of civilians in a vehicle with the claim is that the Syrian General Security forces escaped Israeli tanks in the city of Daraa, “ISIS members of al-Julani flee as Israeli tanks arrive in Daraa.”
Kashif verified the video and found it to be old and the claim misleading. The video documents an Israeli Merkava tank pursuing a vehicle in the town of Marwahin in southern Lebanon, not in the city of Daraa in Syria.
Al-Ghad TV posted the video on YouTube on29/1/2025, with the following description: “An Israeli Merkava tank pursues a Lebanese civilian car at high speed in the town of Marwahin in southern Lebanon.”
Sky News Arabia also posted the same video on Facebook on 30/1/2025, with the following description: “Breathtaking moments… An Israeli Merkava tank pursues a civilian car in the town of Marwahin in southern #Lebanon.”
Syrian media reported that on 17/3/2025, Israeli warplanes launched several raids targeting a military site of the 132nd Brigade in the city of Daraa, killing two civilians and wounding 19 others.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented that Israeli occupation forces carried out at least nine ground incursions into areas in Quneitra Governorate, during the period between 5-14 March 2025. It added: “The incursions included the entry of Israeli military units, some of which were supported by heavy machinery, where the forces carried out several practices, most notably: arresting/detaining a person, setting up temporary military checkpoints, and forcing local residents to submit questionnaires about the needs of the area and receive humanitarian aid.”
