Social media accounts posted a photo showing the Director General of the Internal Security Forces in the Gaza government, Tawfiq Abu Naim, injured in a hospital bed, accompanied by the former head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh. The accounts claimed that the photo was a recent one of Khalil al-Hayya after the Israeli occupation targeted a Hamas delegation in the Qatari capital, Doha, on 9 September 2025. The photo was accompanied by the following description: “Urgent | A photo of Commander Khalil al-Hayya after he survived the assassination attempt, as he sustained minor injuries.”
Kashif verified the image via Google Image search, found it to be old and the claim misleading. The photo, from 2017, shows Tawfiq Abu Naim, the director-general of the Internal Security Forces in the Gaza government, injured following an assassination attempt in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas’s political bureau.
In addition, the Israeli occupation aircraft assassinated Hina in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on 31 July 2024.
The photo, published by Al Jazeera on 27 October 2017, shows the late Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh visiting Tawfiq Abu Naim, the director-general of the internal security forces in the Gaza government, who was injured after an assassination attempt by bombing his vehicle in the Gaza Strip.
The Swiss Arabic website also published the same photo on 27 October 2017, with the following headline: “The commander of Hamas’s security forces in Gaza was injured in an assassination attempt.”
On 9 September 2025, the Israeli occupation launched an airstrike targeting a Hamas delegation in the Qatari capital, Doha, resulting in the deaths of Jihad Labad, director of Khalil al-Hayya’s office, and Humam al-Hayya, son of Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau, along with three of their companions and a Qatari security officer, according to an official Hamas statement.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army announced in an official statement that it had carried out a precise airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha, as part of a military operation dubbed “Summit of Fire,” targeting prominent Hamas leaders responsible for attacks against the Israeli occupation. The army affirmed that it “initiated, executed, and bears full responsibility for the operation.”
