Accounts on Facebook shared and circulated news attributed to the Palestinian News and Information Agency, WAFA, stating: “President Abbas postpones his visit to the Gaza Strip and decides to head to the areas of the northern West Bank affected by the Israeli military operation”.
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be fabricated. Editor-in-chief of the Palestinian News and Information Agency, Wafa Kholoud Assaf, confirmed to Kashif that the news was false and was not published on the agency’s official website.
On 15 August 2024 , WAFA reported that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced in his speech before the Turkish Parliament his decision to head with all members of the Palestinian leadership to the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli occupation forces carried out a military operation at dawn on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, called “Summer Camps,” targeting the cities of Jenin, Tulkarm, Tubas, and several towns in the northern West Bank.
The Israeli occupation army withdrew on Friday, 6 September 2024, from Jenin and its camp after ten days of the military operation. According to the latest update of the Palestinian Ministry of Health on 5 September 2024, 39 Palestinians were killed and about 150 were injuried in the West Bank since the beginning of the operation.
