Social media accounts recently published a video clip of Al Araby TV presenter Mada Taha, with a voiceover attributed to her, which says: “In a surprising move and contrary to all expectations, five Canadian provinces, Ontario, Newfoundland, Alberta, New Brunswick, and British Columbia, with direct support from the Canadian government, announced starting this month that they would attract more than 1.6 million new workers from all over the world, including all Arab countries and North African countries.”
The video was accompanied by the following text: “Canada is requesting one and a half million immigrants in 2025 without any license or language, just register from the official website in the bio.”
Kashif verified the video and found that it was manipulated and the claim was misleading. The original video presented by Al Araby TV presenter Mada Taha, covering the Israeli army’s shooting of a family from Gaza during their call with the Red Crescent.
The circulated video clip was taken from an episode of the “Tawasul” program presented by Al Araby TV presenter Mada Taha, which showed “the occupation army shooting at a Palestinian family, during their call with the Red Crescent in Gaza, asking for their rescue.” The circulated clip is located between 0:00 and 0:15 seconds of the original Al Araby TV video “On the Gazan Family,” which was published on its YouTube channel on 1/30/2024, and accompanied by the following title: “Documenting the shooting of a Palestinian family during their call to the Red Crescent, and the fate of their daughter remains unknown.”
Upon examining the original video, Kashif’s team found that the screen behind the presenter Taha had also been manipulated, by replacing the image of Hind Rajab from Gaza with a group of shots including the speech of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a press conference in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, and a map of the world. As for the text that Taha delivered in the original video, it was as follows: “On the 116th day of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, the crimes of the Israeli occupation continue against a defenseless people, and are even witnessing an escalation in brutality and an increase in killing. The Israeli war and killing machine did not stop after South Africa’s move in the International Court, and quite the opposite, some activists believe that Israel’s failure to demand a ceasefire has made it more daring in killing…”
Kashif’s also contacted Al Araby TV presenter Mada Taha, who confirmed that the voice was fabricated from one of the episodes she had presented, and added that she had not presented an episode about immigration to Canada. Taha expressed her concern about the spread of these clips that aim to exploit the audience.
Regarding the video of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that was superimposed over the photo of the child Hind Rajab, it was circulated on the official channel of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on 24/10/2024, accompanied by the following title: “Government of Canada Immigration Levels Plan.”
In it, Trudeau announced a reduction in the number of new immigrants to Canada over the next three years, which will temporarily slow population growth in Canada, noting that “immigration is essential to Canada’s future, but at the same time it must be controlled and it must be sustainable.”
Trudeau explained at a press conference held in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, that the targeted number of new permanent residents will decrease to 395,000 in 2025, then decrease to 380,000 in 2026, and to 365,000 in 2027.
Video of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that appeared below the presenter’s video is from October 2024 of announcing the expulsion of six Indian diplomats for their suspected involvement in the assassination of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023. Bloomberg Television on YouTube had posted the same video on 15/10/2024 with the following text: “Trudeau: India made ‘fundamental mistake’ by supporting crimes in Canada.”
On 10/2/2024, the body of 6-year-old, Hind Rajab and five of her family members had been found, 12 days after contact with her was lost and she was surrounded by the Israeli occupation army tanks. The family were surrounded by Israeli occupation tanks in the vicinity of the “Maliya Roundabout” in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, and killed immediately, while Hind and her 14-year-old, cousin Layan remained alive for a period of time.
