A photo showing a gathering of citizens with fireworks was recently circulated on social media, claiming to document celebrations in the city of Nablus following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. The photo was captioned: “Celebrations in Nablus over the ceasefire and the end of the genocide in Gaza.”
Kashif verified the photo’s authenticity through a reverse search on Google and found that the image is old. Additionally, Kashif contacted photographer, Ammar Takrouri, from Nablus, who confirmed that the photo is not recent.
Takrouri stated that the photo was taken on 27/1/2023, and posted on his Instagram account. It depicts celebrations at Martyrs’ Square in Nablus after the operation at the Neve Yaakov settlement, which resulted in the deaths of 8 Israelis and injuries to 10 others.
On Wednesday, 15/1/2025, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli government. The ceasefire is set to take effect on Sunday, 19/1/2025, with the specific time to be announced later.
