A photo of military vehicles has recently been circulating on social media, with the claim it was published by the Pentagon, documenting “the arrival of US forces in Israel to operate the THAAD air defense system. Zero hour is approaching.”
Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool, and found that it is old and wrongly linked to the arrival of US forces in Israel. The Pentagon did not publish the image, it dates back to parts of the “Thaad” missile defense system equipment that the United States transferred to South Korea in 2017.
The RT website published the photo on April 25, 2017, in a report with the following title: “Deployment of the US THAAD missile defense system in South Korea sparks clashes between locals and police.” The report explained in its description of the photo that it was taken on March 6, 2017, and shows “part of the THAAD system equipment arriving at Osan Air Base, about 70 km south of the capital, Seoul, South Korea.”
“militarytimes ” website also published the circulated photo in a report on 7/3/2017, titled “The United States is moving parts of its controversial missile defense to South Korea.”
The report said that “the US and South Korean armed forces announced that US missile launchers and other equipment needed to create a controversial missile defense system had arrived in South Korea, a day after North Korea tested four ballistic missiles in the ocean near Japan.”
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced on Tuesday, 15/10/2024, the arrival of THAAD air defense system, which is designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles, to Israel, with US military personnel overseeing its operation.
