Information has spread on social media that two workers from Umm al-Tut in Jenin died during a rock collapse in Tamra. It reads: “Two workers from Umm al-Tut – Jenin died in the Tamra area inside the occupied territories after a rock collapse on them.”
Kashif verified the information and found it to be inaccurate. Journalist Islam Khalaf, who was at the scene, told Kashif that the two Palestinian workers who were killed in a rock collapse at a construction site were Hamza Najm from the town of Siris, south of Jenin, and Ibrahim Sawafta from the city of Tubas. He added that the municipality was unable to rescue them due to the large amount of dirt that had accumulated at the site.
Fact-checker at Kashif, Mohammed Farhat, who was present in the town of Siris, confirmed that the two workers are Hamza Najm from the town of Siris, south of Jenin, and Ibrahim Sawafta from the city of Tubas.
The number of casualties of work accidents in Israel stands at 63 victims since the beginning of the year, the majority of whom are Palestinian and foreign workers, according to the Palestinian News and Information Agency, WAFA.
