“Events Now ” account on “X” platform published a picture of a burning ship, claiming that it was an American ship targeted by the Houthis, and the picture was accompanied by the following claim: “Breaking: A new Yemeni attack on a ship connected to Israel in the Red Sea.”

Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool, and found that it is old and incorrectly linked to the American aircraft carrier targeted by the Houthis on Tuesday, 12/11/2024. The image shows the bombing of a replica of an American aircraft carrier during naval exercises near the entrance to the Arabian Gulf in Iran in 2015.

The Associated Press website published the photo on February 25, 2015, with the following description: “In this photo released by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, a replica of a U.S. aircraft carrier is blown up by Revolutionary Guard speedboats during large-scale naval exercises near the entrance to the Persian Gulf in Iran. The exercises, dubbed “Great Prophet 9,” were the first to involve a replica of a U.S. aircraft carrier. (AP Photo/Tasnim News)”

The spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced in a statement on “X” on 12/11/2024 that “the American aircraft carrier Abraham was targeted in the Arabian Sea with a number of cruise missiles and drones, and the other targeted two American destroyers in the Red Sea with a number of ballistic missiles and drones.”
