    A video showing a warship docks in a port was recently shared on social media with the following claim: “An American warship docks in Beirut port. Has Beirut become an American base”. 


    –A source of the claim


    Kahif verified the video using INVID tool and found the the claim to be misleading. The video was published by Israeli-Hebrew news website “Ynet” on 9 August 2024 with the following caption: “The arrival of the American warship to Limassol”.

    On 8 August 2024, Al-Mayadeen channel published a statement by the Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamieh, on “X”, in which he confirmed that the news of military ships docking at a Lebanese port was false.

     The American ship   “Wasp” arrived at the port of Limassol in southern Cyprus on 8 August 2024. While Cyprus confirmed that it is not participating in any military operations or conflicts. The current tensions between Israel, Iran and “Hezbollah” have increased fears of the possibility of a wider conflict in the region, especially after the assassination of the former head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and the military commander of Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr
