Social media accounts recently published a video clip of a group of people in military uniform inside a bus cursing Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, claiming that it was a conversation following the “Deterrence of Aggression” operation.
Kashf verified the video via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and the claim is misleading. The video was circulated in 2012 as showing the capture of a group of Syrian army personnel by the Free Syrian Army, i.e. before the start of Operation “Deterrence of Aggression” on 27/11/2024.
The video was published by YouTube channel “Tarik Jadida” on 30/12/2012, “Free Syrian Army” channel on YouTube on 28/4/2013, and the “Ibn al-Walid News Network” account on Facebook on 1/1/2014.
The channels and the account stated that the video clip shows the capture of members of the Syrian army by the Free Syrian Army. Kashif was unable to verify the context of the video clip, but its old publication in 2012 confirms that it was before the start of the “Deterrence of Aggression” military operation in Syria on 27/11/2024.
The opposition factions announced on Wednesday 27/11/2024 the start of military operation “Deterrence of Aggression.”
On 2/12/2024, Al-Arabiya TV broadcast on YouTube scenes showing “the capture of a number of regime soldiers by Syrian opposition factions while advancing on the Khanaser road.”
On 2/12/2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that opposition factions targeted the city of Mahardah in the western Hama countryside with a missile attack.
For its part, the Syrian warplanes launched six airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods in the city of Halfaya in the northern Hama countryside, and the helicopters launched four raids with explosive barrels on the city, without any information about human losses, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
