Video of gunmen on the back of humanitarian aid trucks are police security personnel securing it, not to seizing it

A video of humanitarian aid trucks inside the Gaza Strip accompanied by security vehicles circulated on social media with the following caption: “Hamas terrorists are once again seizing a humanitarian aid convoy that entered through the Rafah crossing.”

Kashif verified the information and found it to be misleading. Kashif contacted the Director of Supply and Equipment in the Palestinian Red Crescent in the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Abu Atta, who explained that the Red Crescent continues to receive humanitarian aid through the Rafah crossing in coordination with UNRWA. The aid is delivered to the Ministry of Social Development and the concerned institutions to distribute to the beneficiaries. As for the video of police vehicles accompanying the aid, since the beginning of the humanitarian truce on 24 November 2023, it is to protect humanitarian aid from theft and attack.

Director of the Ambulance and Emergency Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent, Ahmed Jibril, also said that humanitarian aid arrives at the Egyptian Rafah crossing and then to the Auja crossing of the Israeli occupation army in order to inspect its contents, and then the Crescent receives it at the Palestinian Rafah crossing until it reaches the institutions concerned with its delivery and distribution.

Jibril pointed out that the crews of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society received 5,283 trucks from the Egyptian Red Crescent through the Rafah crossing from 21 October 2023 to 30 December 2023. The trucks contain food, water, relief aids, medical supplies, and medicines.
