Information about the deployment of Israeli occupation army in the West Bank spread on social media, reading: “Breaking News: Al Jazeera estimates: A third of the Israeli army is now in the West Bank”.

    One source of the claim

Kashif verified this information and found that it is plagiarism. Kashif contacted Al Jazeera’s office, which denied that it had mentioned this information.

Kashif’s team also looked into Al Jazeera’s official social media accounts, but did not find this information on its accounts.

By examining the messages of Al Jazeera correspondents during their coverage of the military operation launched by the occupation army in the West Bank, it became clear that Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Khairi stated in one of his messages that “Israeli media and military estimates indicate that this military operation currently underway in the northern West Bank is the largest and most extensive Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank since Operation Defensive Shield in 2002.”

Khairi added: “A short while ago, Israeli Channel 14 revealed that this operation is on the level of an entire Israeli military division. Here we can estimate the number of Israeli soldiers – of course, the Israeli media reported that they are in the thousands – but estimates based on the size of the military division could be 7,000 Israeli soldiers participating in this operation, and this is a very large number in the West Bank.”

This explains that one of Al Jazeera’s correspondents stated that the operation was at the level of an entire Israeli military division, not a third of the Israeli occupation army.

Message from Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Khairi about the military operation

The Israeli occupation army announced on Wednesday at dawn the start of a large-scale military operation in the cities of Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas in the northern West Bank, which it called “summer camps”.

The death toll during the Israeli occupation army’s operation in the northern West Bank has risen to 11 martyrs, according to the latest update from the Palestinian Red Crescent.
