Accounts on “X” published a video clip showing a man visiting a cemetery, claiming that it shows a Syrian prisoner released from Sednaya prison, visiting the graves of his sons who were killed during the Syrian revolution, “A Syrian political prisoner who spent 30 years in the prisons of the Syrian Baath Party was released after the liberation of Sednaya prison and went to the graves of his sons who were killed during the revolution by the regime’s army.”
Kashif verified the video via “Google Image” tool and found that it is old and incorrectly linked to Syrian detainees. The video dates shows Palestinian prisoner Sami Ghuneim from the town of Burqin, Jenin, visiting the graves of his two sons on 14/11/2024, who were killed by Israeli forces.
Quds News Agency published the video on Instagram on 11/14/2024, explaining that it documents the visit of the freed prisoner Sami Ghoneim to the graves of his two martyred sons in the town of Burqin, west of Jenin.
Journalist Obada Tahaneh also published a video clip of the same event from another angle on 14/11/2024, and mentioned it was of released prisoner Sami Ghuneim after two years of detention during his visit to his sons’ graves, Muhammad and Nour Ghuneim, from the town of Burqin, west of Jenin, who were killed by Israeli forces during his detention.
The opposition factions announced on Wednesday 27/11/2024 the start of a military operation called “Deterrence of Aggression.” On Sunday 8/12/2024, they announced in a statement broadcasted on state television, the liberation of Damascus and the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule. The opposition added that all detainees had been released.
