A video clip of Russian President Vladimir Putin circulated on social media with translated subtitles: “If the United States of America intervenes in the war on Gaza, we will openly side with the Palestinians in the war.”

The correction: Putin was talking about nuclear war and the original video was previously published on 7 December 2022.

Kashif verified that the video’s subtitles are in fact incorrect. Kashif translated the video clip and found that Putin was talking about nuclear war, saying that he does not hide that there is an increasing threat of nuclear war, “the truth is that if Russia does not take a decision to launch the first strike, it will not carry out the second.”

The original video was previously published on 7 December 2022 on several Arab and international media outlets.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said last Saturday, 7 October 2023, that Russia expresses its deep concern about the sharp deterioration of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and calls on both sides to reach an immediate ceasefire, renounce violence, exercise the necessary restraint, and establish a negotiation process with the help of the international community.
