A photo of a purple doll containing explosive materials spread across social media, accompanied by claims that it was a recent image of remnants left by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip. The image was shared alongside a statement allegedly attributed to Gaza’s Civil Defense, which read:“We found booby-trapped children’s toys and canned foods deliberately planted by the occupation to cause more casualties in most of the areas it withdrew from, particularly Khan Younis.”

    One source of the claim

kashif verified the claim and the photo and found that the information was inaccurate and the image was old and unrelated to the Gaza Strip.

Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, told Kashif that the image of the purple doll was not from Gaza. He added that Civil Defense teams had indeed discovered several remnants left by the Israeli occupation, including metal cans shaped like Coca-Cola cans that exploded in the hands of civilians, killing a young girl in eastern Khan Younis. They also found toxic food remnants resembling cheese, which poisoned an entire family in Al-Shuja’iyya.

A Google search by Kashif revealed that the photo of the doll was old and had been published by the Yemeni website LandmineAlert, which specializes in mine safety awareness. The website posted the image with the following description:“Dangerous and explodes upon shaking; designed to kill children and their families. This type of mine hidden inside toys has been found in some Yemeni villages.”

The website also attached a video report by Al Jazeera Mubasher, published on 3 January 2016, titled:“A Yemeni girl lost one of her legs due to landmines disguised as children’s toys planted by Houthi militias in farms in Marib.”

On day 734 of the war on the Gaza Strip, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas after intensive negotiations involving Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

The agreement included an end to hostilities, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, a mutual exchange of prisoners, the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the disarmament of Hamas. The agreement came into effect following the approval of the Israeli government on 10 October 2025.

Over the course of two years, the number of martyrs and missing persons reached approximately 77,000, with more than 67,000 bodies recovered and brought to hospitals, while around 9,500 Palestinians remain missing. Among the dead were more than 20,000 children, including over 1,000 infants under one year old, and 450 newborns who were born and killed during the war.
