A video clip showing a blazing fire near road has recently spread on social media, accompanied by the following claim: “A very dangerous development that could drag the world into World War III. Ukraine has begun to strike deep inside Russia”.
Kashif verified the video via the “INVID” tool and found that it is old and the claim is misleading, as it was circulated before the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Express website published the video on 10 August 2020, titled: “At least 13 people injured after a huge fireball explodes at a gas station.”
The site also reported that “the explosion occurred in the city of Volgograd in Russia, and at least 13 people were injured in the explosion. Footage posted on social media shows terrifying red flames exploding in the sky.” It added that “the fire broke out in a gas tank at a gas station.”
On 10 August 2020, the Independent website published the video clip in a report titled “A huge explosion hits a gas station in Volgograd, injuring at least 13 people”.
Russia launched a new air attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on 11 August 2024, while fierce battles continue between the forces of the two sides in the Russian Kursk region, which is currently considered the hottest front in the war, and is witnessing the largest incursion of Ukrainian forces since the outbreak of the conflict.
