Social media accounts posted a video of a man stabbing another, with the following description: “Chinese man stabs Israeli diplomat in Beijing.”
Kashif verified the video and found that it is old and the claim is inaccurate. The video is from October 2023 and dates back to the stabbing of an Israeli diplomat in Beijing by a foreign man, not a Chinese man.
The Israel Broadcasting Authority channel on YouTube “Kan | Hadashot – Israeli Radio” published the video clip on 14/10/2023, as part of a video report with the following title: “Stabbing attack – in China: An embassy employee in Beijing was stabbed in a shopping mall.”
Israeli-Hebrew website “Ynet ” reported on 13/10/2023 that an Israeli employee at the Israeli embassy in the Chinese capital, Beijing, was stabbed while on his way to buy food from a shopping center, and was taken to the hospital, and his condition was described as stable.
Times of Israel also published the video on 13/10/2023, in a report titled: “Israeli diplomat repeatedly stabbed by attacker in Beijing.” The report included a clip from the video captioned: “A man repeatedly stabs an Israeli diplomat in Beijing, China, 13/10/2023.”
CNN reported on 14/10/2023 that local authorities in Beijing said that the suspect is a 53-year-old foreign citizen who works as a businessman in the city, and his motives are being investigated.
Kashif’s Israeli-Hebrew affairs team did not find any mention in the Hebrew media and official websites of any similar incident that recently occurred in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
Kashif had previously verified out-of-context videos that were circulated as showing the burning of the Israeli embassies, in addition to a rumor that spoke of the kidnapping of the Israeli occupation ambassador to Cyprus.
