“Jalazone Camp News” account on Telegram shared an image showing two soldiers with fire blazing in a building in front of them, claiming it was recent and taken in Gaza. The post was accompanied by the following text: “The Israeli occupation army continues to demolish residential homes in various areas of northern Gaza.”
Kashif fact-checked the image via reverse image search using Google Images and found that the it’s old and incorrectly linked to the recent demolitions by the Israeli army in northern Gaza. The image actually dates back to December 2023 and depicts Israeli soldiers during a military operation in northern Gaza.
The photo was published by Getty Images on 20/12/2023, with a caption stating: “Israeli soldiers during a military operation in northern Gaza amid ongoing clashes between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.” The photo was taken by AFP photographer Gil Cohen-Magen.
