Social media accounts posted a photo of a tank explosion, claiming it was a recent one from the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City. The photo was accompanied by the following text: “Breaking: An explosive device targeted an ‘Israeli tank’ in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza.”
Other accounts also posted a video of the moment a tank was targeted, claiming it was also from the Shuja’iyya neighborhood. The video was accompanied by the following description: “Al-Qassam Brigades blew up an Israeli tank today in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza.”
Kashif verified the two scenes via Invid and Google Images, and found that they are old and were incorrectly linked to the recent targeting of Israeli tanks by the Al-Quds Brigades in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood.
First: The image is a clip taken from a video clip published by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, on its Telegram channel on 2/7/2024, accompanied by the following description: “Al-Qassam Brigades fighters targeted enemy soldiers and vehicles on the combat fronts in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.” The image is located specifically at the 56th second of the Al-Qassam Brigades’ video.
Second: The video clip is an excerpt from a clip published by Al-Qassam Brigades on its Telegram channel on 4/11/2023, accompanied by the following description: “Scenes of the engagement of Al-Qassam fighters with enemy forces on the outskirts of Al-Shati refugee camp and Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, destroying 10 vehicles and boarding one of them.” The clip being circulated occurs between 1:48 and 2:04 minutes.
Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, announced on Tuesday, 15/4/2025, the detonation of a “Thaqib” explosive device in an Israeli army tank near Al-Mintar Stadium, east of Shuja’iyya in Gaza City.
On 9/4/2025, Al-Quds Brigades broadcast footage it said showed the planting and detonation of a Thaqib explosive device in an Israeli army tank during its incursion into the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City. The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, however, did not broadcast any recent footage of Israeli army tanks being targeted.
