Accounts on X posted a photo showing wrecked cars , claiming that the photo was from a traffic accident in Giza Governorate in Egypt. The photo was accompanied by the following text: “A horrific accident in Egypt!! A trailer driver runs over 20 cars on the Daairi road in Al-Ramyah – Cairo – May God have mercy on all the victims and I wish a full recovery to all the injured.”

Kashif verified the image through reverse image search and verification, and found that the image is fake and generated by artificial intelligence. The image contains significant distortions that can be seen in the people’s figures, and the shape of the road does not match the geography of the Ring Road.

Kashif also searched public and open sources and found that a traffic accident occurred at dawn on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, on the Daari Road in the vicinity of the Shooting Range Square in Giza Governorate. Al-Arabiya Misr published a video clip from the scene of the traffic accident in Giza Governorate, accompanied by the following text: “Horrific scenes from the Daari Road accident.. A “heavy truck” ran over several cars, resulting in the destruction of 12 of them and the injury of 26 people.”

The Egyptian Youm7 website also published a report on the accident, explaining that it was caused by the excessive speed of the trailer driver, and that it resulted in a collision between 12 cars resulting in the injury of 25 people.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population issued a press release regarding the car accident in Giza Governorate, stating that: “The Ministry of Health and Population announced the dispatch of 12 ambulances to the site of a car collision this morning, Wednesday, in the vicinity of the Shooting Range Square in the Haram area in Giza Governorate. The ministry explained that the accident did not result in any deaths, while 24 citizens were injured, 11 of whom were provided with emergency services at the accident site, and “two injured” were transferred to Haram Hospital, and 11 others were transferred to Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, and all of them are receiving the necessary medical care.”
