Social media accounts, including the account of “Eddie Cohen,” published a photo showing the sons of former head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, next to a grave. The photo was accompanied by the following claim: “The sons of Ismail Haniyeh who were killed in Gaza and returned to life in Turkey and Qatar,” casting doubt on murder of a number of Ismail Haniyeh’s sons.

    One source of the claim

Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. Moaz Haniyeh, son Ismail Haniyeh, told Kashif that the people appearing in the photo are his two brothers, Abdul Salam Ismail Haniyeh (left) and Humam Ismail Haniyeh (right), in addition to two former companions of his father Haniyeh, next to his grave in Qatar.

Shown in the photo are Ismail Haniyeh’s sons, Abdel Salam (left) and Humam (right), in addition to two of Haniyeh’s former aides.

Three of Haniyeh‘s sons : Hazem, Muhammad and Amir, and a number of his grandchildren were murdered in an Israeli raid on a civilian car in the Al-Shati camp in Gaza City on April 10, 2024, while the two who appear in the circulated photo are Abdul Salam and Humam Ismail Haniyeh.

Kashif’s team had verified a similar claim published by Eddie Cohen, in which he questioned the murder of one of Ismail Haniyeh’s sons on 2 August 2024, coinciding with the attendance of Ismail Haniyeh’s son, Humam, at his father’s funeral in Tehran, Iran.

    Previous Kashif verification on 2/8/2024

Hamas had announced the assassination of its former political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, at his residence in Tehran after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian.

Haniyeh’s body was buried in the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in the Qatari capital, Doha, and he was buried in the cemetery of the founding imam in Lusail.
