A video clip has spread on social media showing the moment a family meets their daughter, with the claim that the video shows a detainee who was released from Syrian prisons. The clip was accompanied by the following text: “The mother’s shock at the moment she sees her daughter released from the prisons of the terrorist Assad regime.”
Kashif verified the video via “Google Image” tool and found that the video is old and was incorrectly linked to the Syrian detainees who were released from prisons. The video shows the moment Palestinian prisoner Ikhlas Sawalha met her mother after her release from Israeli occupation prisons on 9/8/2024.
Al-Fajr TV posted the video on its Facebook account on 9/8/2024, with the following description: “First moments of freed prisoner, journalist Ikhlas Sawalha, with her mother after her release from Israeli occupation’s prisons.”
Wafa Agency also published the same video on Facebook on 9/8/2024, with the following caption: “The moment freed prisoner, journalist Ikhlas Sawalha, from the village of Beit Sira, northwest of Ramallah, met her mother after her release from Israeli occupation’s prisons yesterday.”
24-year-old journalist Ikhlas Sawalha, from the town of Kafr Ra’i, south of Jenin, was arrested at Deir Sharaf checkpoint on 12/12/2023 and released on 8/8/2024.
Many video clips documented the release of detainees from Sednaya prison, including women and children, after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria on 8/12/2024.
