A video clip has spread on social media, claiming that it shows an Israeli soldier mocking Palestinian citizens at the Attara checkpoint near Ramallah. The voice said: “People of the villages, Attara is closed, bring your blankets and go to sleep.”
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. The voice that can be heard is of Palestinian citizen Anas Bahjat, not an Israeli soldier. Kashif contacted Anas Bahjat, who explained that he works as a public driver and is from the town of Beit Rima. He sent the audio recording to his friend while he was waiting at the Atara military checkpoint north of Ramallah after it was closed by Israeli soldiers on 20/1/2025. Bahjat added that the recording was a joke as he was waiting for hours at the Atara checkpoint.
The Israeli occupation army has tightened its military measures in most Palestinian cities and towns in recent days and has installed new checkpoints and gates. The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission announced that the number of military checkpoints in the West Bank governorates has reached 898 military checkpoints and gates, including 17 gates that have been installed since the beginning of this year 2025.
On Wednesday, 22/1/2025, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the killing of Iman Muhammad Abdullah Jaradat at the Beit Einun checkpoint, northeast of Hebron.
