Social media accounts circulated a video showing Israeli occupation police assaulting a young girl at Bab al-Amoud, Damascus gate, in Jerusalem, claiming the footage was recent. The accompanying caption read: “Three criminal Israeli police officers brutally assault a 14-year-old Palestinian girl while she was visiting her mother’s grave. This is the nature of Israel’s unethical crimes.”
Kashif verified the video’ and found it to be outdated. The footage dates back to February 2022, showing Israeli police assaulting a girl at Damascus gate, not a recent incident.
Journalist Baraah Abu Ramouz originally published the video on her Instagram account on 28/2/2022. Her watermark appears on the video, and she captioned it:
“Assault on a girl and the use of sound grenades against those present at Damascus gate.”
Kashif contacted journalist Abu Ramouz, who clarified that the girl was present at Damascus gate when Israeli police attacked people in the area, including the girl shown in the video. This occurred following scout celebrations marking the anniversary of Isra and Mi’raj.
Notably, media reports from the same date, 28/2/2022, stated that three Israeli police officers assaulted, dragged, and slapped a Palestinian girl at Damascus gate in Jerusalem. They also forced away Palestinians who tried to rescue her. Clashes on that day resulted in injuries to 31 Palestinians.
Reports further indicated that these clashes erupted after Israeli police attacked several youths participating in Isra and Mi’raj commemorations at Bab al-Amoud in Jerusalem.
