X account “Rozan Qabas Al Salem, a Yemeni Jew ” posted two photos, the first showing people inside a tunnel, and the second showing children inside a tunnel. The photos were accompanied by the following text: “More than a million settlers remaining in shelters will lead to a complete halt in the economy”.
Kashif verified the claim via “Google Images” tool and found that the two photos are separate and old. The first photo was published by “GettyImages” on 3 November 2012. The website stated in the photo’s description, “Israelis take shelter in a reinforced concrete shelter in Nitzan, south of the coastal city of Ashdod on 3/11/2012 during a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip”.
The second photo was published by “timesofisrael” on 27 August 2016 and was included in a report with the following title: “Israeli relief organization builds shelters for victims of the Italian earthquake”. The description of the photo stated that “Israel Development Organization volunteers are building a temporary shelter for earthquake victims in Skye, Italy”.
On 23 September 2024, Hezbollah launched a series of missile attacks targeting sites in the Golan, Galilee, Haifa, and Acre, and extended to reach settlements west of Salfit, east of Qalqilya, and south of Nablus in the West Bank.
In return, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of violent raids on Monday 23 September 2024, and on Tuesday morning 24 September 2024, targeting areas in eastern and southern Lebanon, including the Bekaa region, and villages in the Tyre and Sidon districts.
The Israeli government declared a state of emergency on 23 September 2024 for a week. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that “the government urgently approved the declaration of a state of emergency on the home front throughout the country, to deal with the developments”.
