A statement spread on social media holding the “Jenin Battalion” in general and one of the battalion’s members, Muslim Masarwa battalion, in particular, responsible for the killing of the media student at Al-Quds Open University, martyr Shatha Sabbagh.

    plagiarism statement

Kashf verified the statement and found that it was fabricated. Upon returning to the real statement, Kashif found that Shatha’s family held the Palestinian Authority and the security services directly responsible for the killing of their daughter, but the fabricated statement replaced “the Palestinian Authority” and “the security services” with “Jenin Battalion” and “Muslim Masarwa”, in addition to using terms that fit this replacement.

Kashif also contacted Musab Sabbagh, Shatha’s brother, who confirmed that the statement attributed to his family accusing the Jenin Battalion of killing her was forged and baseless.

The real statement issued by the family is as follows:

In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful

“And do not think those who have been killed in the cause of Allah are dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.” (Surah Aal-E-Imran, 3:169).”

Statement issued by the family of martyred journalist Shatha Al-Sabbagh

With hearts filled with pain and chests filled with sadness, and with a firm belief in God’s will and destiny, we mourn to our Palestinian people and the Islamic nation our martyred daughter, journalist Shatha Al-Sabbagh, who was killed by a sniper’s bullet from the Palestinian Authority’s security forces in a fully-fledged crime committed by the Palestinian Authority’s security forces in the city of Jenin.

We, as the family of the martyr Shatha Al-Sabbagh, hold the Palestinian Authority and its security services directly responsible for this crime, and we affirm that this dangerous escalation reflects the transformation of these services into repressive tools that practice terrorism against their people instead of protecting their dignity and standing up to the occupation.

The family confirms that Shatha was with her mother, mother of martyr Moatasem Al-Sabbagh, and she was carrying small children in her arms, in a fully lit neighborhood free of any clashes or security threats. Despite that, the snipers of the security services insisted on shooting her directly, shedding innocent blood and forgetting all national and human values.

This heinous crime is stark evidence of the dangerous deviation of the Palestinian Authority’s security apparatus, which has begun to direct its weapons towards the chests of its own people instead of confronting the brutal occupation. We, the family of the martyred journalist Shatha Al-Sabbagh, hold the Palestinian Authority and its security apparatus fully responsible for this heinous crime.

We call on all human rights and humanitarian institutions, local and international, to take immediate action to investigate this crime and hold accountable all those involved in planning and execution. We also demand serious work to protect our people from the encroachment of these agencies, which have become a threat to the people of the country.

Shatha’s pure blood will not be wasted, and will remain a witness to the injustice of our Palestinian people and the ongoing violations targeting their freedom and dignity. We call on all our people to close ranks and confront all those who seek to weaken our cause and tear apart our national unity.

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. There is no power or strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Almighty.
