Accounts on “X” posted a video clip showing Israeli soldiers eating, with by the following claim: “Palestinians serve shawarma to Israeli soldiers in Jenin in the West Bank”.
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. Journalist Anas Hawshiya, who works in Jenin, told Kashif that the place shown in the video is a house of Jenin family, which the Israeli occupation soldiers had used as a military barracks for several days.
On 4 September 2024, journalist Anas Hawshiya posted a video on his Facebook account from the same place where the Israeli occupation soldiers appeared, explaining that “Israeli forces caused major destruction in the Al-Faris building in the Al-Jabariyat neighborhood in the city of Jenin”. Hawshiya stated in the video that “the Israeli occupation soldiers were present in the place and were preparing food too, adding that the house belongs to one of the residents of the building”.
Kashif’s fact-checker Raneen Abahra, a journalist in Jenin, confirmed that the house belongs to Mrs. Ahed Khalaf from the village of Burqin in Jenin, who is currently in Saudi Arabia. She was not present in the house. Abahra also explained that there are videos and photos documenting the Israeli occupation soldiers bringing boxes of food during the raids.
The Israeli army sent military reinforcements to the city of Jenin and its camp for the ninth consecutive day of the ongoing aggression on the city. The Israeli occupation army also raided several homes in the Al-Ghabs neighborhood adjacent to the camp on Thursday, 5 September 2024, and threatened many families and forced them to leave.
