Social media accounts posted a video showing a series of explosions, what appeared to be injuries, and cameras amidst a gathering of people around the incident. The video was accompanied by the claim: “Notice the fabrication and lies of Palestinians to manipulate people’s emotions.”
Kashif verified the video and found it to be old, and the claim to be misleading. The Islamic University of Gaza posted a video on its official Facebook page on 18 March 2018 with the following caption: “Watch | Opening of the medical awareness day at the Islamic University.”
Kashif’s team compared the circulated video with the one posted by the Islamic University in terms of people, their clothing, the gathering of students, the scene, and the explosions, and found that both videos are from the same event.
Additionally, the Islamic University of Gaza posted a series of photos on 11 March 2018 accompanied by the following caption: “See photos of the medical day and the medical school’s maneuvers today.”
Comparing the circulated video with the photos posted by the Islamic University, it is evident that they are from the same event as well.
