A video clip of people dancing and celebrating has spread on social media, with the claim that it is the joy of Gazans after the killing of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, “Joy of the people of Gaza over the killing of Sinwar.”
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. Kashif’s team searched public sources and found that the video was taken on 1/10/2024, published by Gazan activist Aboud Battah on his official page on X after Iran launched several missiles towards Israel. He captioned the video, “Our joy of the wedding procession of the bride, Tel Aviv.”
The spokesperson of the Israeli army announced on Thursday 17/10/2024 the killing of Sinwar in a house in the Sultan neighborhood west of Rafah after an armed clash with the Israelioccupation forces. Meanwhile, the Hamas movement confirmed on Friday 10/18/2024 the martyrdom of its political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar via a video clip of the movement’s head in Gaza, Khalil Al-Hayya.
