A photo of a group of people inside a room has spread on social media, claiming that they are Palestinian prisoners.
Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and was incorrectly linked to Palestinian prisoners. The image dates back to 2020 and shows detainees in Al-Hasakah prison in Syria, not Palestinian prisoners in occupation prisons.
On 25/3/2020, Asharq Al-Awsat website published the photo in a report titled “Human rights organizations warn of the ‘catastrophe’ of the arrival of ‘Corona’ to Syrian prisons,” and the website described the photo as “a cell crowded with prisoners in Hasakah, Syria (Reuters).”
Reuters also published the same photo on 26/6/2020, indicating that it was from inside Al-Hasakah prison in Syria and taken by Goran Tomasevic.
A video clip was circulated on Monday 7/10/2024 documenting the Israeli occupation’s abuse of some Palestinian prisoners under the pretext of “warnings of unrest inside the prisons.”
The Palestinian Prisoners Club also stated in a statement dated 8/10/2024 that the Israeli occupation forces have arrested more than 11,200 citizens from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since October 7.
