Social media accounts circulated information attributed to Israel-Hebrew media, claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had died following a failed prostate removal surgery. These claims were attributed, in part, to Israel’s Army Radio, with one post stating: “Army Radio announces the death of Netanyahu after a failed prostate removal surgery.”
The Israeli-Hebrew Affairs team at Kashif verified the information and found it to be fabricated. The team reviewed official Hebrew media outlets and websites but found no mention of Netanyahu’s death.
Israeli-Hebrew media outlets, such as ynet, reported that Netanyahu was scheduled to undergo a prostate removal surgery on Sunday, 29/12/2024, after being diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia, which had caused a urinary tract infection.
A report published by israel Hayom on 29/12/2024, stated that Netanyahu woke up from anesthesia following prostate removal surgery at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. Professor Ofer Gofrit, head of the hospital’s urology department, confirmed that “his condition is good.” The report also quoted Netanyahu’s office as stating that the surgery was successful and without complications.
Additionally, Ynet published a report on 2/1/2025, indicating that “the Prime Minister’s doctors reported upon his discharge that his condition is stable, he is recovering well from the surgery, and still has a recovery period ahead. Post-surgical medical monitoring will continue as usual.”
On 3/1/2025, Netanyahu participated in a discussion during which he approved the Israeli negotiation delegation’s trip to Qatar to hold talks regarding a prisoner exchange deal.
