A piece written by Moroccan journalist Younes Al-Meskin has been circulating on social media, in which he mourns the late head of the political bureau of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, with the claim that it is Yahya Sinwar’s will. The text reads: “As I write these words, I recall every moment that has passed in my life: from my childhood in the alleys, to the long years of imprisonment, to every drop of blood that was shed on the soil of this land. I was born in Khan Yunis camp in 1962, at a time when Palestine was a torn memory and forgotten maps on the tables of politicians…”
Kashif verified the information and found it to be incorrect. The text is written by Moroccan media professional and journalist Younes Maskin, editor-in-chief of “Sawt Al-Maghrib” newspaper. The text was published on 18/10/2024 on the newspaper’s website titled: “Al-Sinwar’s Will”, in which he wrote about the stages of Al-Sinwar’s life from childhood, asylum, captivity, and leadership of the Hamas movement.
Kashif also searched the official websites of Hamas and did not find any mention of an official will written by Sinwar.
On 21/10/2024, the Wall Street Journal published new details about Sinwar, including the will and the last messages he left behind, adding: “Sinwar received many offers from Arab mediators to leave Gaza in exchange for agreeing to release the hostages.” Sinwar responded: “I am not under siege, I am on Palestinian land.” The mediators also stated that Sinwar recommended that Hamas appoint a council of leaders and manage the transitional period after his death.
Hamas announced on 18/10/2024 the killing of its political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar in a clash with the Israeli occupation army in Tel al-Sultan in the city of Rafah.
