Social media accounts published and shared information that the Spanish president dismissed Social Rights Minister Ione Bellara after she showed solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for Netanyahu to be arrested and sued.
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. Bellara was the social rights minister for the left-wing Podemos party in the previous Spanish government.
On 20 November 2023, a new government was formed in Spain headed by re-elected president Pedro Sanchez. The left-wing Podemos party was excluded from the cabinet lineup. The change of former minister Ione Bellara therefore came within the change of the Spanish government and was not sacked.
It is also worth mentioning that the new minister of social rights in the Spanish government is of Palestinian origin and is called Sira Abed Rego. She expressed her condemnation of the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
