Social media accounts recently published a photo showing a person inside a hole, claiming that he is one of the detainees in Sednayah prison, “This is one of the prisoners from Sednayah prison, a man surprised to see a human face.”
Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool and found that it was taken from a video clip generated by artificial intelligence, and was wrongly linked to detainees in Syria.
TikTok sanzaruu posted the video on 4/12/2024, and indicated that it was produced by artificial intelligence. The account describes itself as an expert in artificial intelligence.
By examining the content published by the “sanzaruu” account, Kashif found a group of videos generated by artificial intelligence, including clips of “people” inside holes with huge “spiders” next to them.
Kashif’s team also noticed, through examining the details of the video of the “person” inside the hole, that there are a group of signs that indicate that it was produced by artificial intelligence, such as: the “person’s” hand and teeth, and the shape of the huge “spider” that he is carrying.
The opposition factions announced on Wednesday 27/11/2024 the start of a military operation called “Deterrence of Aggression.” On Sunday 8/12/2024, they announced in a statement broadcasted on state television the liberation of Damascus and the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule. The opposition added that all detainees had been released.
Many videos have spread on social media documenting the release of detainees from Sednaya prison. On 8/12/2024, Al Jazeera reported, quoting its correspondent, that the Syrian opposition “succeeded in taking control of Sednaya prison and releasing thousands of detainees from the upper floors, but the three lower floors, known as the Red Prison, the White Prison, and the Yellow Prison, are still underground and isolated from the outside, while the detainees there face tragic conditions.”
