Gazawood’s account on X posted a photo showing a number of journalists, including a female journalist wearing a bulletproof vest, with the word pre instead of press on it. The account claimed that the word pre means before the journalistic production. The photo was accompanied by the following text: “PRE what? Preposterous? Prehistoric? Prearranged Pallywood productions?? Help me out here!”
Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. It contacted the journalist wearing the jacket that shows the word PRE, journalist Mishaal Abu Al-Rub from the city of Jenin. She explained that the jacket contains the word Press printed on the front and back, and due to repeated use and exposure to the sun during her journalistic work, the letters SS at the end of the word were erased. Abu Al-Rub added: “This photo is from her coverage of the storming of the city of Jenin on 25/9/2024.”
Abu Al-Rub also provided Kashif with photos of her press shield, showing the letters SS from the word press on the back, a photo of the word press on the front, and a photo of her wearing a jacket for journalists.
Kashif also found the video clip on Quds Network, showing journalist Mishaal Abu Al-Rub covering the event on 25/9/2024.
GAZAWOOD – the PALLYWOOD account was created in November 2023 and is followed on X by more than 40,000 followers. It is one of the accounts that publishes the most videos and photos claiming that Palestinians have falsified scenes from the Gaza Strip.
As for the “Pallywood” campaign, it is a global campaign that has been active since 7 October 2023. It is a term that results from merging the words Palestine and Hollywood. It aims to cast doubt on the existence and number of causalities and wounded in the Gaza Strip and accuses the Palestinians of acting in order to gain international sympathy.
