A photo showing a huge explosion has recently spread on social media, as: “Unknown bombardment targets Iranian locations in Tartus, Syria”.
Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool, and found that it is old and the claim is misleading. The image was taken by photographer Omar Sanadiqi for Reuters on 10.5.2018 and published on his Instagram account “omarsanadiki” with the following text: “Rocket launches appear from Damascus”.
The Guardian also published the photo on its website in a report on 5 October 2018, titled: “Rockets were seen being launched from Damascus, after Israel responded to a missile attack on the Golan Heights with strikes inside Syria”.
The Guardian reported that the spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces explained that “its positions in the Golan Heights were subjected to a barrage of Iranian missiles, which prompted it to respond with intensive strikes targeting Tehran’s forces throughout Syria”.
