Social media accounts have recently published a group of videos of demonstrations against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, claiming that they are a recent attempt to overthrow the regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashif verified the videos via \u201cGoogle Images\u201d and found that they are old and the claim is misleading. The videos show demonstrations against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi that took place in Egypt in September 2019, not recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First: A video clip<\/a> of a group of demonstrators chanting slogans including \u201cAl-Sisi must go, lengthwise and widthwise,\u201d and the clip was accompanied by the following claim: \u201cThe Egyptians moved to overthrow the Al-Sisi regime. Say don\u2019t be afraid, Al-Sisi must go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

By going through the circulated video, Kashif’s team found that Al Jazeera presenter\u00a0Hossam Yehia<\/a>\u00a0had posted it on his account on \u201cX\u201d on 21\/9\/2019, accompanied by the following text: \u201cTalat Harb Street leading to Tahrir Square a short while ago, chants saying don\u2019t be afraid, Sisi must go, the people want to bring down the regime.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Second: A video clip<\/a> showing a group of young men tearing up a banner with a picture of President Sisi on it, with the video accompanied by the following description: \u201cThe coming flood in Egypt.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n

Kashif’s team found that the video was published by \u201cNew Egypt News Website<\/a>\u201d on YouTube, accompanied by the following text: \u201cTearing up pictures of Sisi on Al-Alphi Street in downtown Cairo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Third: A video clip<\/a> of a group of protesters tearing up a banner bearing a picture of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, accompanied by the following claim: \u201cThe Egyptian people are rewriting their history with their demonstrations against el-Sisi\u2019s dictatorship. Yes, people of Egypt, throw the dictator in the trash.\u201d<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n

Fourth: A video\u00a0clip<\/a>\u00a0showing a group of demonstrators chanting \u201cThe people want to bring down the regime.\u201d The video was accompanied by the following text: \u201cEgypt, the people want to bring down the regime. Tomorrow the revolution will crush you, you Zionist. Egypt is occupied. Get ready, you Egyptian, for liberation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Kashif’s team found that media figure\u00a0Moataz Matar<\/a>\u00a0had posted the video clip on his Facebook account on 21\/9\/2019 with the following text: \u201cAn Egyptian woman to Sisi: \u2018Why does he make us hungry while he lives in palaces that we brought him into.. and we are the ones who will carry him?\u2019 Today I tell you, \u2018Leave, Sisi.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Several demonstrators in several\u00a0Egyptian governorates<\/a>\u00a0went out on Friday, 21\/9\/2019, chanting slogans against President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in response to calls launched on social media platforms demanding the removal of President El-Sisi, especially by\u00a0Mohamed Ali, an Egyptian contractor residing abroad, after he directed corruption accusations against the president and leaders of the army.\u00a0<\/a>The media<\/a>\u00a0also circulated\u00a0many\u00a0video clips<\/a>\u00a0at the time that documented the demonstrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashif’s team also went through Egyptian and\u00a0Arab\u00a0<\/a>media<\/a>\u00a0outlets and did not find any\u00a0news<\/a>\u00a0about recent demonstrations in Egypt against the Egyptian government.<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
