Kashif verified the image via \u201cGoogle Images\u201d tool and found that it was manipulated. The original image had the phrase \u201cWe trust those who liberated us. He who liberates is the one who decides,\u201d not \u201cThe people want Jihad al-Nikah,\u201d as claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An account named omar_nezhat1<\/a>\u00a0posted\u00a0the photo on Instagram on 20\/12\/2024, with the following text: \u201cFrom Umayyad Square.\u201d Upon closer inspection, Kashif’s team found that the sign read: \u201cWe trust those who liberated us. Whoever liberates is the one who decides.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

On 20\/12\/2024,\u00a0Umayyad Square in the capital Damascus witnessed a demonstration in which hundreds of men and women participated in response to a call launched\u00a0<\/a>by the Civil Youth Gathering<\/a>\u00a0to demand a civil state and the participation of women in public life and political work in the new Syrian administration. The demonstrators raised many slogans, including: \u201cA free civil Syria,\u201d \u201cWe want democracy, not a dictatorship,\u201d and \u201cNo free homeland without free women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
